A few months ago it felt like every AI Twitter thread was about the same idea: type a sentence, get a playable game back, swipe to the next one made by a stranger. I've spent time in the three apps that made this a real category - and one of them doesn't even exist anymore. Here's what I actually found.
This isn't a "which one wins" post. They're not really solving the same problem, and picking a winner would flatten what makes each one different.
Gizmo - the one that started it, and the one that's gone
Gizmo was the first app that made this format click for me. You typed a prompt, got back a puzzle, meme, or mini-game, and could actually open it up in a built-in editor afterward instead of just accepting whatever the AI gave you.
What I liked:
The editor. Most of these apps treat generation as one-shot; Gizmo lets you actually tweak the result.
A genuine remix culture. Liking, commenting, forking other people's Gizmos felt closer to GitHub than a content feed.
What didn't hold up:
It's dead. Atma Sciences, the team behind it, got hired by Meta in March 2026, and the original app shut down on August 20, 2026. If you go looking for Gizmo on the App Store today, it isn't there.
Aippy - the one with the biggest community
Aippy is the closest thing to an established player here. It's not just games - the generator also spits out simple tools, interactive art, hand-tracking experiments, 3D stuff, and it supports uploading your own assets (sounds, images, fonts) instead of relying purely on the prompt.
What I liked:
Genuinely cross-platform. iOS and Android, both maintained.
The numbers back up the "biggest community" claim. 1M+ downloads and 4.8 ★ on Google Play as of its last update, 4.9 ★ on the App Store. That's a bigger, more visible install base than anything else in this space right now.
Generation is free. No paywall on making a game, and the app is ad-free.
Public share links work even for people without the app.
What didn't hold up:
Inconsistent output. Some reviewers mention the AI can be inconsistent and needs a few tries to land a working result, which matters if you're expecting a one-shot generation.
Klipy - the one that isn't just a game app
Klipy does the same core loop - prompt in, mini-game out, feed to swipe through - but it's bolted onto an app that already did GIF, sticker, and clip search.
What I liked:
No second app needed. If you already reach for a GIF keyboard during the day, not needing a separate app for game-scrolling is a real convenience, not just a feature-list bullet.
100% free.
Cross-platform. You can download the Klipy app on iOS and Android.
Anyway
Gizmo's basically a footnote at this point now. Between Aippy and Klipy, they're solving different problems - one's a dedicated creation tool and the other folds game-generation into something broader. Which one's more useful probably just depends on what you were already using your phone for.
