AI-powered video analytics can turn that footage into structured traffic information. Two useful applications are Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and Vehicle Counting. Automatic Number Plate Recognition An Automatic Number Plate Recognition Camera captures images of vehicles and visible number plates. The typical workflow involves: Detecting a vehicle. Locating the visible number plate. Capturing the relevant image. Processing the characters using automatic number plate recognition software. Returning the available recognition result for an authorized application. This can support parking monitoring, access management, traffic intelligence, and vehicle investigations. Vehicle Counting Vehicle counting uses computer vision to count vehicles crossing a configured line or entering a defined monitoring zone. For example, an organization could monitor: Vehicles entering a campus Traffic at a parking entrance Vehicles moving around a warehouse Traffic entering a commercial property Vehicle flow through specific road lanes The two technologies can complement one another. Vehicle counting can answer how many vehicles passed through an area, while ANPR can provide information about which visible number plates were captured. Platforms such as Enalytix use AI-powered video analytics for traffic intelligence and vehicle monitoring. However, technical implementation matters. Camera angle, lighting, vehicle speed, image resolution, plate visibility, weather, and obstructions can all influence analytics performance. Data governance is also important.
